THIS CLOSE to NH's new fluoride law!!

New Hampshire's House passed their new infant fluoride warning bill in March, 253-23, and NH's Senate also passed it on April 25th, with a unanimous voice vote after it passed 4-0 out of committee!!

No, it won't go to the NH governor to sign into law just yet.  The Senate made an amendment to it.  Originally, the infant fluoride warning was to have been in all quarterly water bills, but the Senate recognized that renters do not always get water bills since their landlords pay for their water, and amended it to be in the "(annual) water quality reports (that) go to all residents in a community whether they rent or own, and are also posted on water company websites year-round."

Dr. Paul Connett's group asked to have it in both places, but got shot down by the oral health people.  It's now back in the NH House, to pass as is with the new amendment, or to call on the NH Senate to go back to the original, and then it'll go to the NH governor who is expected to pass it into law.

Albuquerque's Water Authority Cut Fluoride

Water Authority cuts fluoride from city water

"Fluoride is no longer being added to Albuquerque's drinking water. City officials argued supplemental fluoride is not necessary to meet current standards, but a local dentist said they should think twice...

"We're going to err on the side of caution," said David Morris, with the Water Authority.

"Morris said under current standards, they do not need to add fluoride to Albuquerque's water. "People need to understand that fluoride occurs naturally in our water and we're achieving the level, 0.7 parts per million, that is right in-line with what is being recommended right now with C.D.C (Center for Disease Control) and E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency)."

"Morris said residents were notified about the change in a recent Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority newsletter, but said that supplemental fluoride has not been added to city water for more than a year now.

"The CDC and EPA are expected to put out a new recommended fluoride level sometime this year.
At that time, they will re-evaluate their decision and make adjustments accordingly, Morris said."

Update on Fluoride Lawsuit

Federal judge dismisses Calif. fluoridation lawsuit

"April 16, 2012 -- A federal judge has ruled that a Southern California water district can legally add hydrofluosilicic acid to public drinking water even though it has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of disease or dental caries...

"But Judge Samartino disagreed, ruling that private lawsuits cannot be based on the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and dismissed it.
"The law firm that filed the lawsuit plans to appeal the decision, claiming that adding the chemical to drinking water for medical purposes without first obtaining FDA approval of this drug for such purposes 'is illegal and needs to be stopped.'"

New Study Released on Fluoride

New Studies:  Fluoridation Fails to Reduce Cavities in New York City and Nationally

"New research shows that fluoride chemicals added to U.S. public water supplies are not reducing tooth decay as promoted and promised by government agencies..."Using federal statistics, the West Virginia University Rural Health Research Center reports that urban U.S. children, with more exposure to fluoridated water and dental care, have just as many cavities as less fluoridation-exposed rural children...
"The researchers write: "For children's dental health measures, it was found that fluoridation rates were not significantly related to the measures of either caries or overall condition of the teeth for urban or rural areas."

"New York City spends millions of dollars annually on fluoridation. Yet another study proves fluoridation fails in NYC also.  NYC's Chinese-American 2-to-11-year-olds, living in the low-income area of Manhattan's Chinatown have much more primary tooth decay when compared to white and other minority groups nationally (NYS Dental Journal June/July 2011). Most of NYC's Chinese-American children are U.S. born - 63% have primary tooth decay compared to only 38% of children in a national study.
"The authors write, "This high prevalence of caries in the primary dentition is also similar to a national survey of children in mainland China, where three out of four children were found to be affected by caries in primary teeth," averaging about 5 decayed teeth."
WVU study shows fluoride in water supply does not reduce tooth decay

"A new study conducted by researchers at West Virginia University shows that fluoride added to the U.S. public water supplies have not reduced tooth decay.

"The WVU Rural Health Research Center used federal statistics to conduct the study, according to a news release. The research concludes that children in urban areas who are more exposed to fluoridated water and dental care have as many cavities as children in rural areas who have less exposure to fluoridated water.
"'For children's dental health measures, it was found that fluoridation rates were not significantly related to the measures of either caries or overall condition of the teeth for urban or rural areas,' the researchers write in the report."

Fluoride Lessons from Canada + Videos

Ontario (Canada) has passed a new law, called Ontario's Safe Drinking Act, Section 19, to go into effect January 1, 2013, putting every city council and mayor to be held accountable and liable for what is put in their drinking water, regardless of what Health Canada/public health/or dental promoters attempt to make them do, or they will face arrest.  If we're reading this correctly, it is up to the public and city council and mayor to "ask very tough questions," to obtain proof about "...the purported benefits and safety of fluoridation by way of hydrofluorosilicic acid.  The calibre of any council undertaking in this regard will be all that protects the people, and all that protects the council."

CRN's articles against the new NDI's guidelines

CRN: FDA's NDI Guidance Seeks Premarket Approval (Council for Responsible Nutrition) published their article in the April 2012, Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology --

"...The article also points out that FDA’s effort to impose pre-market approval on dietary supplements is not a new occurrence. In the 1970s and 1990s, before the passage of DSHEA, FDA made two attempts, both of which were rejected by Congress and the courts.

"Hear more about NDIs and probiotics—anther big issue many in the industry have with the Draft Guidance—in the SupplySide MarketPlace education session, "Probiotics, NDIs and Species Identification," on Thursday, May 10, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.., Javits Center, New York."

"Is Sugar Toxic?" - 60 Minutes, CBS TV, April 1, 2012

"60 Minutes" (60minutesovertime.com) to view their TV show aired on April 1, 2012:
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7403942n&tag=contentMain;contentAux

Dr. Lustig and Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer.  (Artificial sweeteners are worse than sugar, made up of pure chemicals, but they are not covered in this TV show.)

Towards the end the 60 minutes reporter goes under a CAT-Scan, while drinking a few sips of diet soda, and the brain is shown lighting up with "reward" receptors.  Their conclusion is that sugar tricks the brain into addiction the same, or worse, than cocaine, and the more you eat of sugary foods, as well as refined and processed foods, the more those "reward" receptors require to get their excited "high."

Since there is no nutrition in the refined/processed foods, the body and brain both crave more and more to satisfy hunger.  Sugar also provides the "energy" we're all seeking to deal with our busy and stressful schedules, but it drops in a very short time, and then we're back at the feeding trough to get more.

What experiences have you had with the information covered in their TV show?
