Dr. Lustig and Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer.  (Artificial sweeteners are worse than sugar, made up of pure chemicals, but they are not covered in this TV show.)

Towards the end the 60 minutes reporter goes under a CAT-Scan, while drinking a few sips of diet soda, and the brain is shown lighting up with "reward" receptors.  Their conclusion is that sugar tricks the brain into addiction the same, or worse, than cocaine, and the more you eat of sugary foods, as well as refined and processed foods, the more those "reward" receptors require to get their excited "high."

Since there is no nutrition in the refined/processed foods, the body and brain both crave more and more to satisfy hunger.  Sugar also provides the "energy" we're all seeking to deal with our busy and stressful schedules, but it drops in a very short time, and then we're back at the feeding trough to get more.

What experiences have you had with the information covered in their TV show?
